Job Description
Sobeys has an exceptional opportunity for a Director of Corporate Communications within the National Communications & Corporate Affairs Department. With exposure to the CEO, this role provides critical internal communications support to the organization in addition to providing external public relations counsel and support for select Company-wide initiatives. The breakdown between internal and external responsibilities would be approximately 70/30.As a key member of the Company’s Communications team, the successful candidate will:• Work with senior leadership, including the CEO, providing communications counsel and lead the development and execution of national internal communications strategies to support the Company's business strategy• Provide change management communications counsel and support to the organization to help advance the Company’s business strategy • Manage multiple communication projects from development to implementation• Put processes in place to evaluate communication effectiveness and manage the feedback process• Ensure timely and accurate administration and content development of internal and external web-based communication tools.• Develop and/or edit written documents and presentations to support the Company's goals and objectives including content and coordination of newsletters, brochures, manuals, web site and other internal communications• Work with the Company’s regional communications teams to advance programs and communications that are national in scope

Qualifications
• Track record of progressively senior strategic corporate communications/public affairs experience, particularly as it relates to implementing innovative communication programs designed for internal / employee audiences• Proven ability to deliver over the course of 8 or more years of relevant work experience• Ability to counsel and support executive leadership up to and including the CEO• Ability to think and act strategically, while playing a hands-on role in the development of communication tools/materials• Familiarity with the news media• Exceptional writing, editing, proofing and researching skills• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills• Detail-oriented• Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills• Ability to build partnerships, set and manage priorities and meet deadlines, all within a multi-tasking environment• Ability to deal with diverse groups of people with diplomacy and tact• Experience with electronic media, particularly web publishing an asset• Bilingualism an asset• Previous communications in a retail-oriented environment an assetInterested candidates are encouraged to apply online by following clicking here

Its Been a Long, Long Time Coming! Join for Greek Christmas Dinner?

Well I can not believe that it has been so long since the last post. Apologies.

I was thinking maybe six or 12 posts a year when I started out. Will definitely try to do better in the months ahead.

My family and I were in France for the summer while I did my MBA and it was a crazy first half leading up to that.

I attended the Sept. 30th Toronto Chapter Alum meeting and here are a couple of the highlights:

The Mount is launching a new Capital campaign for a Teaching, Learning and Research Centre to be built behind the Seton Centre. We'll get more details on that in the coming months.

On Dec. 2 I am hosting the next Alum meeting at my house and we will all be heading down to the Danforth for some great Greek food afterwards. Send me an email to mgcayley (at) hotmail (dot) com if you are interested in joining.

I am hoping that this get together might be a kick off for more dinners together. Take a sec and google Dinner with 12 Strangers. This is a proven program that helps build alum networks at Universities all over the world. M.S.V.U. has about 1000 alum in Toronto, why not see if we can build some connections between us?

The idea is simple. 12 people come together, sit down to dinner as strangers and walk away as friends. Do you want to put a dinner together in your area? Make a comment or drop me an email.

Mark Sitter moves from Edelman to Sherritt International

This is a short note to let you all know that Friday, December15, will be Mark Sitter's (hey Mark ... I know you are a PR grad, but what year?) last day at Edelman. He has taken a corporate affairsposition with Sherritt International, a diversified resources companybased in Toronto. His first day will be January 8, 2007. What Might Be Valuable to MSVU Toronto Alumnae

I have started to think about this, wondering how to activate and engage this group in a meaningful way.

I have started to borrow the brains of a few friends asking questions like ...

What is the best women's networking group in Toronto? What do they do for their members?
What are some of the best activities that alumnae associations from U of T, Western, etc. offer?
What do you get from you alumnae association?
What does it take for people to make a break from their locked in routines (busy yes, but isn't all about what actually makes it onto your priority list? Grey's Antatomy or meeting people who do not have an apparent, immediate impact on career and/or family.)

Can you add some questions or answers to this list?

One consistent answer that I get back, and have experienced for myself, is that Toronto is a difficult place to get settled in. This stretches from the basic challenge of getting a job and figuring out where you want to live ... to meeting people, to some of those aspirational goals like developing a social network of consequence that can help orchestrate business relationships, contribute to fundraising help to spread buzz about an event or new resturant.

There are 700 MSVU alumnae in the GTA. No one can answer the question ... what is the geographic distribution of this population, unless we start to share this information voluntarily.

There must be at least 100 Public Relations grads (of which I am one) out there. This should be a group that can see the benefits of getting together and is positioned to make the organising as painless as possible.

Anywhoo ... the bottomline is, I wonder how could we do something together that is cool?

MSVU Toronto Alumnae - Count Me In

I think it's a great idea to see if you can gather us all up in one place! Let me know if you need volunteers to help coordinate things.

What to do? What to do? What 2Do?

Hey ... so a few months back, during the course of work, I noticed the feature on business networking site LinkedIn that let's you find people who went to your school.

I surfed around there for a bit and came across an old friend that I had completely lost touch with. We have exchanged some email, caught up on family & biz info and she has introduced me to a colleague of her's that lives around the corner from me.

Not too long later I received an invitation to a MSVU alum event at the Bata Shoe Museum. I went, drank a few glasses of wine with a bunch of people I had never met before, but who had gone to the Mount and had a pretty good time.

And a couple of weeks ago I ran into someone from the Mount in the subway. Someone who I knew, though we never really travelled in the same circles while we were at school, but who apparently lives about four blocks from me ... I was supposed to text my email addie to her, but I screwed up when I tried to save her phone number.

Anywhoo ... apparently there are about 700 MSVU alum in the GTA. So this blog is a bit of a flyer to see who is out there, start to generate some conversation and see what happens.

I went recently to a couple of the Toronto Alumnae Association meetings. As you probabably have envisioned, these meetings are steep with the history of the Mount. There is a small group of women who have been involved for years. What strikes me most about the group dynamics is that you have a group who come from a very wide variety of backgrounds, yet who are connected in someway. Over the years they appear to have shared a part of their lives.

This seems valuable to me.

I would appreciate it if you forward this around to anyone who went to the Mount so that we can eventually spread it virally to as many in Toronto as possible.
